The College of Science Student Travel Award (COSSTA)

Objective:

Recognizing the value for students in sharing research findings and interacting with scientific leaders and peers, donors to the College of Science have established the College of Science Student Travel Award.

Eligibility:

Undergraduate students, graduate students not on funded projects, and young scientists no more than three years out from the award of their Ph.D. and not in a tenure-track position.

Application process:

Applications will be accepted during the academic year. Applicants will submit, to the Dean’s designee (Associate Dean Trempy, Kidder 128), three hardcopies of a completed application consisting of:

Copy of the submitted meeting abstract describing the presented research

Copy of the letter describing acceptance to present at the meeting

Budget describing the cost of: travel, lodging/meals per diem, meeting registration and preparation expenses (i.e. poster materials).

Certification of matching funds from the Department (please provide index number) or from another agency (like a scholarship from the conference itself).

Certification by the major professor that the project is not supported by Federal Research funding. The letter of support need not be long...just a line or two.

Applications will be reviewed and decisions made by the College of Science Leadership Team

Students and young scientists receiving a College of Science Student Travel Award (COSSTA) will submit, to the Dean’s designee (Associate Dean Trempy, Kidder 128), a one page description of their experience within 60 days after the end of the meeting for the purpose of reporting on student engagement, a University mission.

New applications will be accepted beginning Sept. 15, 2008.
