Purpose

The purpose of this FOA is to provide support for meritorious research projects that involve statistical analysis of existing genome-wide data (e.g. genome-wide SNP genotyping; DNA sequencing; transcriptomic, metagenomic, epigenomic, or gene expression data) relevant to human dental, oral, or craniofacial conditions or traits. Development of statistical methodology appropriate for analyzing genome-wide data, relevant to human dental, oral, or craniofacial conditions or traits, may also be proposed.

Research Objectives

The NIDCR, and other NIH Institutes/Centers, support genome-wide studies relevant to human dental, oral, or craniofacial conditions or traits. The genotype and phenotype data are available through the NIH (e.g., dbGaPGabriella Miller Kids First Initiative) and/or through the parent study. The resultant wealth of data generated by these studies often provides unique, cost-effective opportunities to investigate additional research questions, apply new analytic methods, combine data across studies to more powerfully address research questions, or develop new analytical approaches. This FOA supports statistical analysis of data derived from NIDCR-funded studies or of data derived from other sources. Experimental validation of new methods or statistical analyses may be proposed, but the focus of the project should be on statistical methods development or analysis.

Applicants should consider the relevance of their proposed analyses to NIDCR programs and priorities as described in the NIDCR Strategic Plan which is available athttp://www.nidcr.nih.gov/Research/ResearchPriorities/StrategicPlan/.
