GEO 535 Geochemical Analysis (3 credits)
This course is 3 credit course scheduled to be next taught in Spring 2013. The course involves weekly lectures and discussions and also includes a significant component of hands-on laboratory exercises, primarily using plasma based mass spectrometers in OSU's Keck lab. Other experts from across campus will be giving lectures and demonstrations in their area of expertise. We can also fine tune the lecture material to the interests of the class.
Subjects to be covered include:
Principles of mass spectrometry
40Ar-39Ar dating
Stable Isotope measurements
Solution ICP-MS
Multicollector ICP-MS
Laser-ablation ICP-MS
Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometry
Thermal Ionization Mass Spectrometry
X-ray Fluoresence
X-ray Diffraction
Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy
