A problem that arose in my lab concerned determining the stereochemistry of a pair of metal complexes shown below. We knew (based on the synthesis) that they were likely the syn and anti isomers (diastereomers at the phenyl-bearing carbon). However, it was critical to further work to establish which was which. (Note: the methoxy group is labeled with 13C, leading to a doublet, J = 144 Hz)
