The College of Science works in partnership with the Research Office and others to support the following key University capabilities that allow our researchers and students to make discoveries that contribute to a healthier, more environmentally sound and technologically advanced world. The instrumentation and fabrication abilities we offer are world-class, and a point of pride for us — not only do we stay on the cutting edge of technology, our labs and equipment are available to faculty and students in the College of Science, as well as the entire OSU community. Our facilities highlights include:
The 105,000-square-foot teaching and research facility is named for OSU alumnus and two-time Nobel laureate Linus C. Pauling ’22, one of the greatest researchers of the 20th century. Featuring newly-designed, contiguous laboratory space, the facilities foster collaboration between disciplines and provide students and faculty with access to leading research projects. Multidisciplinary faculty and principal investigators come together to work on projects focused understanding nutrition and micronutrients in order to prevent chronic and debilitating diseases.
The Electron Microscopy Facility (EMF) provides advanced electron microscopy instrumentation services to Oregon State University's (OSU) research communities. Instruments include the newly installed Titan 80-200 analytical transmission/scanning transmission electron microscope (TEM/STEM) used to visualize the structure, chemical composition, and arrangement of atoms in thin, extraordinarily small specimens. It is one of only two at a U.S. university. The TEM/STEM is just one instrument that helps attract faculty and students across many disciplines to OSU, contributes to undergraduate and graduate education and training, and is essential to basic and applied research programs.
The Oregon State University NMR Facility provides state-of-the-art instrumentation for researchers throughout campus and the state of Oregon. With the highest field NMR spectrometers in Oregon with fields of 800 MHz and 700 MHz, the OSU NMR Facility provides unique capabilities for biological, biomedical, chemical and environmental research to students and faculty as well as offering a regional NMR resource for businesses/industry, national labs, colleges and universities throughout the Pacific Northwest.
